National Review of Speed Limits Information Note

In November 2013, the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport (DTTaS) published a report Speed Limits Review 2013. One of the key recommendations of the report was that all speed limits across the country should be reviewed and updated, as appropriate.

The report also recommended that the existing speed limit guidelines should be revised and updated. In March 2015 DTTaS published new Guidelines for Setting and Managing Speed Limits in Ireland and directed that a national review of all speed limits should be undertaken within a period of two years up to April 2017.  Working in conjunction with local authorities, TII completed the review of speed limits on national roads earlier this year. The information note will inform you on the status of the review and next steps.
