The Irish Draught Horse exhibition
This exhibition will trace the history of the Irish draught horse, from war horse to show jumper, and from medieval times to the present. The Irish Draught Horse has been woven into the fabric of life in Kildare down through the ages and this event will show some of its links with the people and places around the Curragh.
This exhibition has been organised by the Kildare Branch Irish Draught Horse Breeders Association and features the findings from the TII-funded excavation of a medieval stud farm at Mullamast, Co. Kildare.

Kerry - Seanchaí Centre, Kerry Writers’ Museum, Listowel
Archaeologist Tony Bartlett, Archaeological Management Solutions, presents an overview of archaeological investigations undertaken on the route of the Listowel Bypass. Discoveries include Bronze Age cooking sites, a possible watermill, and the remains of a 19th-century structure. This free public lecture takes place at 8.00 pm in Seanchaí Centre, Kerry Writers’ Museum, The Square, Listowel (please note change of venue).

Kildare - Halverstown National School, Old Kilcullen
Archaeological secrets of the M9 Motorway
TII Archaeologist Noel Dunne will deliver an illustrated presentation of the results of archaeological investigations in advance of the M9 Motorway and M9 Motorway Service Area, in the vicinity of Old Kilcullen and Halverstown, Co. Kildare. Previously unknown archaeological sites discovered and excavated included six prehistoric fulachtaí fia, Early Neolithic hearths and pits, Early Bronze Age settlement and structures, an early medieval souterrain or underground chamber, early and post-medieval cereal-drying kilns and a late medieval limekiln. This free public lecture takes place at 8:00 pm in Halverstown National School, Old Kilcullen, Co. Kildare.

Roscommon - Rathcroghan Visitor Centre, Tulsk
An introduction to N5 Ballaghadereen–Scramoge archaeology
Deirdre McCarthy, N5 Resident Archaeologist, outlines the current archaeological works along the route of the planned N5 Ballaghadereen–Scramoge Road Project. The archaeological services, which began in June 2019, include built heritage surveys, underwater surveys, townland boundary surveys, geophysical surveys, palaeo-environmental coring, and aerial surveys, as well as test-trenching of the entire route. Previous archaeological works undertaken as part of the Environmental Impact Assessment Report and the role archaeology played at the design stage will also be outlined. This free public talk takes place at 7.00 pm in the Rathcroghan Visitor Centre, Tulsk.

Cork - Castle Hotel, Macroom
Dr Colin Rynne (Dept of Archaeology, UCC) and Kate Taylor (TVAS Ireland Ltd) present a public lecture relating to a historic mill complex excavated on the N22 Baile Bhuirne to Macroom road project in County Cork.
Excavated at Kilaclug, west of Macroom, this long-forgotten mill complex yielded many secrets and expands our understanding of the early industrial heritage of West Cork. An online ‘Story Map’ of all archaeological sites excavated in advance of the proposed new N22 road scheme will also be launched on the night. All are warmly welcome to this free event which takes place at the Castle Hotel, Main Street, Macroom, at 8.00 pm.

When fresh memories set hard: Civil War graffiti at Mountrivers Bridge, Doonbeg, Co. Clare
Archaeologist Bryn Coldrick, Archaeological Management Solutions, describes the discovery of Civil War-era graffiti. As part of recent architectural recording prior to the demolition of the N67 Mountrivers Bridge, near Doonbeg, some graffiti was discovered. The term ‘Free Stater’ and other marks were recorded and following consultation with the National Museum of Ireland the object now resides in Clare County Museum. This free public lecture takes place at 8.00 pm in Clare County Museum, Arthur’s Row, Ennis.

Food in ancient Ireland: insights from archaeology
Following on from her involvement in the award-winning History of the Irish Diet in Plants show garden at the recent Bloom garden festival, Dr Meriel McClatchie, Assistant Professor, UCD School of Archaeology, examines the archaeological evidence for food production in Ireland, from Stone Age to post-medieval times. This free public lecture will be based on the results of archaeological excavations on national road projects and other development-led and research projects around the country. The lecture takes place at 6.00 pm in the Kildare Room at the National Museum of Ireland, Kildare Street, Dublin 2.
