Heritage Week 2021 Project and Events

In light of the ongoing public health restrictions, TII's 2021 contribution to National Heritage Week will again focus on sharing some of the results of TII's work virtually, working with different partners including local authorities, local museums, and archaeological companies.

For this year’s Heritage Week a selection of videos, story maps and webinars will be made available including:

Videos

  • N16 Lugatober (Drumkilsellagh to Lugnagall) Road Project: AMS have released the latest of their videos Monuments for the Dead on the AMS YouTube channel.

  • Archaeology of the N5 Ballaghaderreen to Scramoge: Roscommon County Council have recently launched a series of videos by AMS on the RCC YouTube channel on the archaeological works on the N5 scheme.

  • N26 Cloongullaun Bridge Realignment Scheme: Bruce Sutton of Rubicon Heritage Services Ltd presents the results of excavation work at Cloongullaun and Pollsharvogue in County Mayo. The video can be viewed on the Rubicon Heritage YouTube channel.

Story Maps

  • N5 Ballaghaderreen–Scramoge Story Map,  With archaeological works recently completed on the N5 Ballaghaderreen–Scramoge scheme, this innovative Story Map by AMS provides an insight into the many archaeological discoveries along the scheme, combining maps, videos and drone footage. The Story Map will go live on the AMS and Rathcroghan Visitor Centre Facebook pages during Heritage Week.

  • Past lifeways in the Irish Midlands: the archaeology of the N52 Cloghan to Billistown Road Improvement Scheme in County Westmeath is a collaborative StoryMap produced by ACSU Ltd, with contributions from IAC Ltd, Colm Flynn Archaeology, and the University College Dublin Centre for Experimental Archaeology and Material Culture. It presents the results of archaeological works undertaken on Phases 1 and 2 of the N52 Cloghan to Billistown Road Improvement Scheme. By combining results from the excavations and post-excavation analysis undertaken by three archaeological companies it presents all of these findings together for the first time.

The lecture is entitled At the Foot of the Mountain: archaeological discoveries on the N16 Road Project, Co. Sligo and is now available on the AMS YouTube channel.
