National Cycleway Announcement

Under direction from the Minister for Transport, Tourism & Sport Leo Varadkar, the National Roads Authority has been asked to assist in the delivery of the nation’s first cycleway between Dublin and Galway.

The National Roads Authority has established the National Cycle Network Advisory Committee (NCNAC), which is comprised of the National Road Authority, Fáilte Ireland and National Sports Council/ National Trails Office to advise on the development of the national cycleway network.

The first national cycleway between Dublin and Galway will open in phases.

Phase 1: Maynooth to Mullingar consists approximately 60km of new cycleway and it is anticipated to be completed by the end of 2013.

The additional phases will be brought through the planning process during 2013.
Upon completion, this project will deliver the first cross-country national cycleway from Dublin to Galway and establish one of the most significant tourism investments that will assist in regional and local job creation.
