Salt Supply Winter 2013/2014 is 210,500 tonnes

The National Roads Authority is currently providing Winter Maintenace on routes across Ireland including the primary and secondary national road network which is 5,000km long and is made up of motorways, dual carriageways and single lane roads.

The motorway network maintenance programme oversees1,187km of motorway/dual carriageway and our network carries approximately 45% of the country's total road traffic and 99% of Ireland's freight is distributed by road.

The national strategic storage facilities for our Winter Maintenance are currently located at Balbriggan, Ennis and Kinnegad.

Stock in NRA Depots and Winter Ready Equipment

National Roads are maintained via stock within vaious NRA depots, this National Stock is distributed to various Local authorities with a total of 110,500 tonnes available for National Roads

Regional and Local Roads(RLR) are maintained via stock within vaious RLR suppliers this RLR stock is distributed to various Local authorities with a total of 100,000 tonnes available for Local Roads

In addition to our salt supplys we have a variety of Winter Ready Equipment available including:

  • 351 Salt Spreaders; and
  • 327 Snow Plows.

Motorway Maintenance Network

The Motorway Maintenance Network is broken down into three separate regions:

The first region is the Greater Dublin area including parts of the N/M1, N/M2, N/M3, N/M4, N/M7, M9 and N/M11.
The second region is Midlands/West of the country with approximately and includes parts of the N/M4, N/M6, M7, N/M18, N19, M20 and N85.
The third region is the South and South East totals approximately and includes parts of the M7, M8, M9, N10, N20, N22, N24, N25, N28 and N40.
