Appointment of Chief Executive Officer Transport Infrastructure Ireland
Today, Gareth Llewellyn, Chair of Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII), has announced the appointment of Lorcan O’Connor as TII’s next Chief Executive Officer.
Lorcan will take up his role on 1st October 2025 following Peter Walsh’s retirement. His appointment follows an international search, an extensive interview process involving members of the TII Board and Department of Transport and confirmation by the Minister for Transport.
Commenting on the appointment, Minister for Transport Darragh O'Brien said, “I was delighted to confirm Lorcan O’Connor as the next CEO of TII. Lorcan’s wealth of experience and expertise in transport are undisputable, and he will be a worthy successor to Peter Walsh after his upcoming retirement. With several crucial projects ahead of us in the coming years, TII’s role in ensuring that our transport infrastructure and services are sustainable and strategic is more important than ever. I am sure that Lorcan will bring great vision and ambition to TII, and that it will continue to thrive under his leadership. I congratulate Lorcan on his appointment and wish him every success. I also take this opportunity to thank Peter Walsh for his invaluable contribution and to wish him the very best in his retirement.”
Commenting on the appointment, Gareth Llewellyn said “Lorcan brings a significant depth of experience in the delivery of sustainable transport services and is well respected by our key stakeholders. He is precisely the leader we need as we are tasked with delivering the next phase of the NDP.”
Paying tribute to outgoing CEO Peter Walsh, Gareth added “During his time as Chief Executive, TII has been tasked with delivering an ever-expanding remit. From greenways and the national cycle network to electric vehicle charging and Metrolink, Peter’s professional and diligent approach has guided the organisation through much change, and I know he will continue to do so until he retires later this year.”
Lorcan is currently Group Chief Executive of Córas Iompair Éireann (CIÉ) and was the inaugural Chief Executive of the Insolvency Service of Ireland. He is also a Board member of The Insolvency Service in the UK and a member of its Audit and Risk Committee. Commenting on his appointment, Lorcan said “I am honoured to join TII as its CEO this autumn. I look forward to working with the dedicated team at TII as we advance into the delivery phase of several pivotal projects. Together, we will ensure TII fulfils its mandate to facilitate the efficient, safe, and sustainable movement of people and goods across Ireland”.
