Update on George’s Dock Bridge Fire and Luas Red Line Services

At approximately 7:00 PM on Tuesday, 19th August, Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) was alerted to a significant fire beneath George’s Dock Bridge in the IFSC, near Connolly Station. In response, Transdev activated its emergency procedures and immediately suspended Luas Red Line services in the affected area.

An Garda Síochána maintained control of the site until 23rd August, at which point TII and Transdev were granted access to begin damage assessment. Engineering inspections revealed extensive structural damage to the bridge’s beams, abutments, and rail systems.

On Thursday, 4th September, overhead cables in the impacted zone were removed to facilitate unrestricted access for construction crews. The structural integrity of the bridge was confirmed to be compromised, prompting the commencement of demolition works and installation of a replacement bridge deck.

Works have progressed well on site over the last few weeks with the Bridge Beams delivered and installed on Thursday the 9th of October.

Works continued on the slab deck with another significant milestone reached on the Thursday the 17th of October.

Works have also progressed on the transition slabs to the East and West Abutments with the rail installation commencing on the 28th of October.

Ongoing Works and Service Resumption

Reconstruction works at George's Dock are progressing well, with completion targeted for the end of November. Extensive and complex bridge repair works commenced mid-October. These works included saw cutting, heavy concrete breaking and the pouring of new slabs.
