Luas Finglas Railway Order Application granted by An Coimisiún Pleanála in record time

Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) and the National Transport Authority (NTA) today welcomed the grant of a Railway Order (planning permission) by An Coimisiún Pleanála for Luas Finglas. The Railway Order application was submitted on 15th November 2024. Minister for Transport Darragh O’Brien welcomed the decision, highlighting its significance for sustainable growth and improved connectivity in north Dublin: “This is a major milestone in expanding Dublin’s public transport network. Luas Finglas will offer thousands of Dubliners a fast, reliable, sustainable way to get around the city, helping to reduce traffic congestion and improve air quality. The additional cycle and pedestrian facilities involved in the project will offer even more sustainable and active transport options. By reducing journey times, the project will also support the development of housing and businesses along the route. Luas Finglas will bring great benefits to the local community as well as to Dublin as a whole.”

Toll Charge Increase from 1st January 2026

• Following the application of the relevant CPI inflation figure for August 2024 to August 2025 of 2%, certain toll rates chargeable across the eight PPP and two TII toll roads (M50, Dublin Port Tunnel) on the National Road Network will increase from 1st January 2026. • The Board of TII approved these increases in tolls for 2026, for Dublin Port Tunnel and the M50 and confirmed the contractual agreement to the increase in tolls for the eight PPP Toll schemes. • On M50 all categories of vehicles will experience an increase, except for unregistered motor cars without a tag or video account. All other categories will increase by 10 cent. Heavy goods vehicles exceeding 10,000kg holding a video account will have 20 cent increase on M50.

Transport Minister and Government Agencies Welcome MetroLink Railway Order Nation-Building MetroLink to Transform Dublin and Ireland

The decision of An Coimisiún Pleanála to grant approval for the MetroLink Railway Order has been warmly welcomed by Minister for Transport Darragh O’Brien, National Transport Authority (NTA) Interim CEO Hugh Creegan, Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) CEO Lorcan O’Connor, and MetroLink Programme Director Seán Sweeney. This planning permission marks a major milestone towards delivering MetroLink, a critical nation-building project for Ireland’s future. The decision facilitates MetroLink proceeding to procurement and construction in the coming years.

A planning application for the N/M20 Cork to Limerick Project is programmed to be submitted to An Bord Pleanála next year, subject to approval of the project’s Business Case which will be presented to Government later this year.

Interactive mapping available from today’s update on the project website, www.corklimerick.ie, presents the developing design which includes specific information on the Indicative Development Boundaries, mainline, junctions and side road design, layouts for seven Transport Hubs and a dedicated Freight Hub, amongst many other design details and construction information. Public display events will be held between 12pm and 8pm in Charleville (June17th), Adare (June 18th) and Mallow (June 19th).
