TII's purpose is to deliver and maintain transport infrastructure and services, enabling connectivity and regional development. 

TII is a state agency under the aegis of the Department of Transport, working at both national and regional level, in partnership with Local Authorities regarding national roads and greenways, and the National Transport Authority (NTA) regarding light rail and metro .

TII was established through a merger of the National Roads Authority (NRA) and the Railway Procurement Agency (RPA) under the Roads Act 2015, and was set up to deliver and operate safe and efficient light rail and national road networks.

In 2021, TII was delegated additional functions in relation to active travel and greenways.

Appropriate Assessment – Public Consultation

Transport Infrastructure Ireland has determined that an Appropriate Assessment is required in respect of proposed bridge works in the townland of Merginstown Glen, Co. Wicklow. These works comprise of scour repair of the riverbed at the downstream end of the Merginstown Bridge concrete apron. Prior to making a determination, the applicable legislation requires TII to carry out a public consultation and publish a notice of the proposed project.

Network-wide Road Safety Assessment

In compliance with the RISM Directive (Article 5) and the Irish Government’s Road Safety Strategy (Phase 1 Action Plan 2021 to 2024 – Action 1), TII Road Safety have prepared a network-wide road safety assessment (NWA) for rural sections of Irish national primary roads. The purpose of NWA is to classify the road network into safety levels. Those sections with poor safety ratings will be prioritised for targeted road safety inspections and, where necessary, suitable interventions.

George's Dock Bridge Reconstruction 

Luas services between Connolly and The Point will resume from 28th November, as major works at George’s Dock have been completed, in time for the Christmas season. These works have included replacing key bridge infrastructure, reinstating the Luas tracks, and completing essential utility and electrical upgrades.
