LDV National Road Grant Scheme

Now part of TII, Zero Emission Vehicles Ireland (ZEVI) is continuing to support the delivery of Electric Vehicle (EV) recharging infrastructure across Ireland's National Road Network by incentivising private sector involvement through the EV Recharging Infrastructure LDV Grant Scheme.

This programme provides financial support to the private sector for the installation of high-powered recharging pools along key sections of Ireland’s national roads. The scheme is grant aided by the Department of Transport and prioritises fast and ultra-fast charging to ensure that EV drivers can recharge quickly and conveniently while travelling.

EV charging

Phase 1

The first ZEVI EV Recharging Infrastructure Light Duty Vehicle (LDV) National Road Grant Scheme was launched in early 2024. In July 2024, the locations of 17 successful applicant sites were announced for the rollout of new high-powered recharging pools on the National Road Network. To ensure balanced coverage across the National Road Network, a second round of Phase 1 launched in late 2024, focused on specific areas (sub-zones) where it was not possible to award grants in the initial round, bringing the total number of awards to 19.

Combined, the grant support offered for the development of the 19 high-powered recharging pools targets the delivery of 149 high-powered recharging points and approximately 29,120 kilowatts (29 Megawatts) of recharging capacity.

Phase 2

Launched in October 2024, Phase 2 of the programme targeted more than 1,200 km of National Single Carriageway roads. In June 2025, the locations of the 53 successful applicant sites were announced. Combined, the grant support offered for the development of the 53 new high-powered recharging pools targets the delivery of 175 high-powered recharging points and approximately 20,000 kilowatts (20 Megawatts) of recharging capacity.

Phase 3

Launched in February 2025, Phase 3 of the programme targeted the 3,000 km of non Ten-T national single carriageway roads. In October 2025, the locations of the 90 successful applicant sites were announced. Combined, the grant support offered for the development of the 90 new high-powered recharging pools targets the delivery 192 high-powered recharging points, providing an additional 22,000 kilowatts (22 Megawatts) of recharging capacity.
